主とともに歩む

　新しい年、2026年を迎えました。昨年は75周年をともに祝い、歩めたことを感謝いたします。本年も皆さまお一人おひとり、またご家族の皆様の上に、神さまの豊かな祝福がありますよう、心からお祈りいたします。

　新年にあたって教会は、「主の公現」や「主の洗礼」といった祝日を通して、神が御子の受肉や洗礼の秘跡を通して、わたしたちのただ中にご自身を現してくださるという恵みをあらためて味わいます。幼子イエスは、遠い昔の出来事としてではなく、今もわたしたちの生活の中に来てくださる主です。

　新しい年の始まりは、誰にとっても希望と同時に、少しの不安や戸惑いを伴うものかもしれません。社会の変化、先の見えにくさ、個人的な悩みや課題……。しかし、主の洗礼の場面で天から響いた声、「これはわたしの愛する子」（マタイ3・17）というみことばは、洗礼を受けたわたしたち一人ひとりに向けられています。わたしたちは神に愛されている存在であり、その愛の中で新しい一歩を踏み出すことができるのです。ですから、わたしたちは喜びと希望のうちに、平和と一致に向かって歩みましょう。

　教皇レオ14世は、世界平和の日のメッセージで、「他者を平和へと導きたいならば、まず、あなたがた自身が平和を持ちなさい。あなたがたこそが平和を固く保ちなさい。他者に平和の火を燃やすには、あなたがた自身の中に平和の光を灯さねばなりません」という聖アウグスティヌスの言葉を引用し、「平和に心を開きましょう。平和を遠い、不可能なものと考えず、むしろ、それを受け入れ、認めるところからはじめましょう。平和は目標である前に、存在であり、また歩みなのです」と語りかけました。

教会は、完成された人の集まりではなく、主に導かれながら歩み続ける旅の共同体です。今年も、まずは自分の中に愛の光と平和の祈りを響かせましょう。そして、祈りの中で主の声に耳を傾け、喜びも重荷も分かち合いながら、共に信仰の道を平和と一致に向かって歩んでいきましょう。この一年が、「主よ、あなたはどこにおられますか」と問いながら、「ここにおられるのですね」と気づく恵みの年となりますように。本年もどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

Walking with the Lord

As we welcome the new year, 2026, I give thanks that we were able to celebrate our parish’s 75th anniversary together last year and walk forward in faith as one community. I pray from the heart that God’s abundant blessings may rest upon each one of you and upon all your families throughout this year.

At the beginning of the new year, the Church invites us—through the feasts of the Epiphany of the Lord and the Baptism of the Lord—to contemplate anew the grace of God revealing Himself in our midst through the Incarnation of His Son and through the sacrament of His baptism. The Child Jesus is not merely a figure from long ago; He is the Lord who continues to come into our daily lives even now.

The start of a new year brings hope to everyone, yet it may also carry a measure of uncertainty or hesitation—changes in society, an unclear future, personal concerns or challenges. However, the words spoken from heaven at the Baptism of the Lord, “This is my beloved Son” (Matthew 3:17), are addressed to each one of us who have received baptism. We are loved by God, and within that love we are able to take a new step forward. Therefore, let us walk together in joy and hope, moving toward peace and unity.

In his message for the World Peace Day, Pope Leo XIV quoted the words of St. Augustine: “If you wish to lead others to peace, first possess peace yourselves. Hold fast to peace within you. To kindle the flame of peace in others, you must first light the lamp of peace within your own hearts.” The Pope encouraged us, saying, “Let us open our hearts to peace. Do not think of peace as something distant or impossible, but begin by accepting and acknowledging it. Peace is not only a goal; it is a way of being, and it is a journey.”

The Church is not a gathering of perfect people, but a pilgrim community that continues to walk, guided by the Lord. This year as well, let us first allow the light of love and the prayer for peace to resonate within our own hearts. In prayer, let us listen to the Lord’s voice, and as we share both joys and burdens, let us walk together on the path of faith toward peace and unity.

May this year be a time of grace in which, as we ask, “Lord, where are You?”, we come to recognize, “Ah, You are here with us.” I look forward to journeying with you again throughout this year.
