ぶどうの木

９月になったというのに、まだまだ残暑は厳しいですね。でも、わたしは一足早く食欲の秋。実りの秋。ぶどう、柿、梨、りんご、いちじく、栗などなどたくさんあって迷ってしまいますね。皆様はいかがでしょうか？

　最近、皆様から、ぶどう（ぶどう酒も）をたくさんいただきました。「なんでだろう」と思っておりましたが、いただいたぶどうを食べていたら、イエス様のことを思い起こしました。

「わたしにつながっていなさい。わたしは、ぶどうの木、あなたがたはその枝である。」（ヨハネ15・4、5）

　イエス様はぶどうや、ぶどう園、ぶどう酒などぶどうを用いた例えを多く残しています。イエス様はぶどうが大好きだったのでしょうかねぇ？

　聖書全体を「ぶどう」で検索すると、511個所も出てくるので、イスラエルの人々は皆、ぶどうが大好きだったのかもしれません。古代からイスラエルはワインの産地として有名で人気が高く、ローマ帝国の各地に輸出されていたそうです。現代でも、イスラエルのワインは有名で、ガリラヤ湖の北東、ゴラン高原では、主に火山灰が降り積もった土壌で水はけに優れており、気候は比較的涼しく、ワインの生産が盛んだそうです。

　イエス様もカナの婚礼の時に、水をぶどう酒に変えてくださり、最後の晩餐の時には、そのぶどう酒を自らの御血となさいました。そして、そのご自分の血によってわたしたちを救ってくださいました。イエス様はぶどうも好きだったかもしれませんが、それよりも、何よりもわたしたちのことを「大好きだよ」と思い、「つながっていなさい」と言ってくださっているのですよね。

　今日も、イエス様の御体と御血という、どんな実りよりも甘く香る素晴らしい神様の愛をいただいて、心も体も豊かになり、信仰の実りの秋といきたいですね。

The Vine

Although September has arrived, the lingering summer heat remains intense. Still, for me, autumn has already begun — with its bounty and appetite. Grapes, persimmons, pears, apples, figs, chestnuts… there are so many delicious fruits to choose from, it’s hard to decide. How about you?

Recently, I’ve received many gifts of grapes (and wine) from various people. I wondered why, but as I was enjoying the grapes, I found myself thinking of Jesus.

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. I am the vine; you are the branches.” (John 15:4–5)

Jesus often used grapes, vineyards, and wine in His parables. Perhaps He really loved grapes

If you search the Bible for the word “grape,” it appears in 511 places. It seems the people of Israel truly loved grapes. Since ancient times, Israel has been known as a prominent wine-producing region, with its wines exported throughout the Roman Empire. Even today, Israeli wines are well known. In the Golan Heights, northeast of the Sea of Galilee, the volcanic soil offers excellent drainage, and the relatively cool climate makes it ideal for wine production.

Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana, and at the Last Supper, He offered that wine as His own blood. Through His blood, He saved us. Maybe He did love grapes—but more than anything, He loves us. He says to us, “Remain in me.”

Today, as we receive the Body and Blood of Christ — God’s love, sweeter and more fragrant than any harvest — may our hearts and bodies be nourished, and may we enter into a fruitful autumn of faith.
